The Energy Pavilion was commissioned as the 2016 Triumph Pavilion and installed at the V&A Museum of Childhood as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Designed by Five Line Projects, the temporary installation explored the idea of collective energy through an interactive field of bamboo pinwheels that transmitted movement across the structure, encouraging visitors to participate and engage with the pavilion.
During this project, I carried out the structural engineering of the pavilion, working closely with the design team to develop a lightweight and efficient structure capable of accommodating both the architectural concept and the dynamic interaction of visitors. The pavilion combined a dense array of slender stainless-steel rods, a cross-laminated timber platform and a lightweight aluminium roof, requiring careful consideration of stability, constructability and public use.
The project demonstrated how engineering and design can work together to create engaging public installations, transforming a simple structural framework into an interactive environment that responded directly to human participation and movement.
